Period of Purple Crying
You may have noticed this disquieting image on billboards in various locations throughout Buncombe County. The Period of Purple Crying campaign is an early intervention and outreach campaign to reduce the incidences of Shaken Baby Syndrome. 2-1-1 is the number to call to receive more information about this campaign. The Period of Purple Crying campaign is designed to educate parents, caregivers, and health and human service providers about dealing with newborns and to normalize frustrations and fears related to caring for crying infants.
A free, one hour information session for the health and human service community related to this campaign, newborn care, and Shaken Baby Syndrome will be held on October 12th at 9:00 a.m.at Mission Children's Hospital. Health and human service providers from Counties outside Buncombe are also welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Jen Waite at 255-0696 or jwaite@unitedwayabc.org. See this flyer for more information and directions.
