2-1-1 Helps People
2-1-1 learned many lessons in its local disaster and recovery work during Hurricanes Frances and Ivan in 2004 and by assisting displaced Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims in WNC in 2005.
Our community was not affected by a major disaster in 2006. However, in the event of natural or other community-wide disaters, the systems 2-1-1 has in place for assisting people who are facing daily crises can be enormously effective and beneficial:
2-1-1 is accessible by dialing an easy-to-remember phone number

2-1-1 is staffed by trained professionals.
2-1-1 is open 24/7
2-1-1 has Spanish-speaking staff and access to interpreters of other languages
2-1-1 has developed close relationships with City and County emergency services staffs and elected officials
2-1-1 has access to the expertise and support of a nationwide network of United Ways, call centers, and more.
2-1-1 is focused year-round on preparing our organization to serve the community in times of disaster.
