Community Resource Connections for Aging and
Disabilities Streamlining
Consumer Access to Long Term Services and Supports
The fact is
that long-term services and supports are funded by numerous
sources, administered by multiple agencies, have complex,
fragmented and often duplicative intake, assessment and
eligibility functions. So implementing a
uniform, coordinated system of information and access for all
persons seeking a long-term support will minimize confusion,
enhance individual choice, be cost efficient, and support
informed decision-making. CRC of the Land-of-Sky is a
collaboration among area organizations including Land-of-Sky
Area Agency on Aging, United Way's 2-1-1 of WNC, The Councils
on Aging of Buncombe and Henderson Counties, The Departments
of Social Services in Buncombe, Henderson, and Transylvania
Counties, Madison County Community Services, Western Alliance
Center for Independent Living, and Western Highlands
Network. You are
invited to join us for a cross-training and information
meeting that will be held Friday, June 25th from 10:00 to 2:00
at Park Ridge Hospital in Henderson County. Free lunch! RSVP to Christina@landofsky.org by June 22nd.

Elder Abuse
Awareness
May 10 - June
18
Did you
know?
- One older American is victimized every 2.7 seconds.
- Research indicates elder abuse is highly
under-reported. Data on elder abuse in domestic
settings suggests that only 1 in 14 incidents are reported.
- In 2009, more than 17,000 reports of abuse, neglect or
exploitation were made to North Carolina's 100 county
Departments of Social Services.
This year, from
Mother's Day to Father's Day, you can join the North Carolina
Elder Abuse Awareness Campaign:
We all have
a responsibility to support the safety, welfare, and dignity
of North Carolina's vulnerable and older adults. We urge all
citizens to work together to help protect adults from abuse,
neglect, and exploitation. It is imperative that North
Carolinians refuse to tolerate the indignity of elder
abuse. |

Job Search and Placement
Searching for a job in this
increasingly competitive job market can be daunting. Fortunately, assistance is available.
Job search and placement programs
maintain listings of available employment opportunities and
help people who are searching for a position to choose and
obtain the most suitable option.
An example is your local JobLink
Career Center. In coordination with the North Carolina
Employment Security Commission (ESC), JobLink Career Centers
offer job seekers a single place to receive assistance in
every step of the job search. Services typically include
job training, job listings, job placement, career information
and guidance, labor market information, career assessment and
weekly workshops on interviewing, resume writing, marketing
yourself to employers and Internet job search.
