community programs. Services include housing, food,
medicine, transportation, support groups, money management,
legal assistance, counseling, health care, and more.

National
Day of Listening
November 27, 2009
United Way's 2-1-1 is a community service information
line that links people with local resources. We're
staffed by Referral Specialists who are skilled in active
listening. We're here to offer people good information
about where to get help, but often the biggest gift we offer
people is listening.
The National Day of Listening is a way you can give the
gift of listening this holiday season. On the day after
Thanksgiving, set aside one hour to listen to and record a
conversation with someone important to you. You can interview
anyone you choose: an older relative, a friend, a teacher, or
someone from the neighborhood. You can also serve the
community by interviewing in local veteran's hospitals, senior
centers, homeless shelters, and other community centers.
