2-1-1 is Talking about You!

A recent survey indicated that 90% of surveyed agencies in the 2-1-1 database have received referrals from 2-1-1.  It is imperative that the information we have on file is accurate and up-to-date so that we can provide our callers with the best possible information about how to utilize your services.  This avoids confusion and duplication for everyone involved!

Please verify and update your listing today!   Access our database at www.211wnc.org.  If you have questions about your listing or using the database, please contact Patty McGovern at (828) 255-0696 x 314 or pmcgovern@unitedwayabc.org.
2-1-1 Presentation to the Buncombe County Commissioners

2-1-1 tracks a wide variety of resources and assists people from all walks of life, which allows us to identify trends in what people need and what help is available.  The data gathered by 2-1-1 provides crucial information that can be used to improve our local human services delivery system.

Rachael Nygaard, the 2-1-1 Director, presented 2-1-1 call trend data to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners on June 16th.  To view this brief presentation, click here, then click the link to the video for the June 16th meeting. Scroll ahead to approximately 35 minutes into the meeting for the 2-1-1 presentation.
Elderly AbuseCommunity Resource Spotlight
Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention

The 4th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was held on June 15th 2009.

Here are some things you need to know regarding the safety and care of our community's vulnerable elderly citizens:

1. Learn the signs of and symptoms of abuse, neglect and exploitation of senior citizens and adults with disabilities. These may include:  bruises, burns or bedsores; large withdrawls from bank accounts or inclusion of additional name on bank accounts; dehydration; unsafe living conditions; innapropriate use of medication; and more.
2. Individuals are required by law to make a report to the Department of Social Services if the individual has any reason to believe a disabled adult is being abused. You do not need proof and you do not have to identify yourself.
3.  When in doubt, always make a report.

For more information or to make a report, contact your local Department of Social Services at the number listed below.  You may also call 2-1-1 with questions.
