Tools for You
Free Resources for People who are Deaf or
Hard of Hearing
Sorenson Video Relay Service (SVRS) is a free
24-hour service for the deaf and hard of hearing community
that enables anyone to conduct video relay calls with family,
friends, or business associates. Calls are placed and
received through a professional American Sign Language (ASL)
interpreter via a high-speed Internet connection and VRS
equipment (i.e., a Sorenson VP-200 videophone). SVRS is for
deaf and hard of hearing callers who use ASL to place phone
calls to any hearing person. Additionally, SVRS is available
for hearing users to contact deaf and hard of hearing
persons. All SVRS calls are free. Also, Sorenson
Communications provides a free videophone for deaf or
hard-of-hearing persons who use ASL and have a high-speed
Internet connection.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Control
Program The Breast and Cervical Cancer
Control Program (BCCCP) is a screening program. The
BCCCP, federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control,
pays for mammograms and also for biopsies, physician
consultations, health education, and more. Started in 1990, it
gives county health departments funds to offer free mammograms
for women ages 50 to 64 who don't have insurance or who
qualify for Medicaid. It also provides mammograms to women
outside that age group if they don't qualify for private
insurance. If a patient is found to have cancer, the program
pays for follow-up treatments. If a woman is concerned she may
have breast or cervical cancer and she is uninsured, she
should call her local BCCCP office before receiving a positive
cancer diagnosis. To learn more about the
